Audio Playback

Add sounds to your prototypes with a new action that lets you play sound effects and other audio files in response to triggers.

Anchor links

Add links to your prototypes with a new action that lets users jump to different points on the same artboard.

Shortcut for resizing area text to fit content

Double-click the bottom resize handle of an area text box to automatically adjust the height of the box to match the text inside.

Multiple actions on a Tap trigger

You can now add both a transitional action (e.g., Transition, Auto-Animate, and Overlay) and a non-transitional action (e.g., Audio Playback and Speech Playback) in response to a Tap trigger when prototyping in XD.

Sharing improvements

Recipients of a privately shared link can now re-share with other reviewers while preserving read-only permissions.

Support for macOS Voice Control

Now you can access XD design and prototyping features using dictation and voice commands. 

Group sharing

Enterprise customers can sync groups and distribution lists to XD from their organizations’ address books. Then they can select these groups when inviting editors to cloud documents or providing access to private shared links.

Publish All Artboards

Unset a Home artboard in Prototype mode to publish all the artboards on your canvas to a shared link, whether they’re wired together or not.

Heart shapes

Create heart shapes using the Polygon tool. Simply type “<3” in the Sides/Corners field and your polygon will turn into a heart.

Content-Aware Layout

Quickly create common UI design elements without tedious manual work. In its initial release, Content-Aware Layout lets you control the padding of a group and preserve these values as the group’s layers change.

Drag-and-drop in XD Plugin APIs

Enhanced plugin APIs now let you drag assets from a plugin in the Plugins panel and drop them right on your design canvas. To add drag-and-drop support for your plugin, please see developer documentation.

Star Ratio

Add star shapes to your designs using the Polygon tool. Simply adjust the Star Ratio on the canvas or in the Property Inspector to draw anchor points and create your shape. 

Sharing improvements

You can select a single artboard and publish it to a shared link in Share mode.

Coediting (Beta)

Collaborate in real time with other designers. Coediting lets you and your team work together in the same document at the same time, speeding up your workflow and eliminating duplicative or conflicting work.

Component states

Add interactive elements to your prototypes without unnecessary work. With component states, you can design variations of a component for different scenarios, like Hover or Pressed. You can also use states in Prototype mode.

Document history

See the evolution of your documents over time. Document history lets you browse previously saved versions of a document, bookmark and name specific versions, and open a version in a new window to see changes.

Hover trigger

Bring new levels of interactivity to your prototypes. Use the new hover trigger in Prototype mode to specify interactions for when a user places a cursor over a particular design element.

Multiple interactions

Design for a variety of user inputs without duplicative work. In Prototype mode, you can now drag multiple wires from a single element to add interactions for different inputs. For example, add different actions for “tap” versus “drag” without having to duplicate artboards.

Redesigned Plugin Manager

Get even more value from XD with plugins. The redesigned Plugin Manager makes it easy to search and browse plugins, explore curated collections, see detailed profiles with screenshots and ratings, and install plugins to use in your workflow.

Share mode

Get feedback, present your work, share with developers, and more. The new Share mode lets you keep shared links to your designs in sync, see which artboards and user flows are shared, and configure settings like password requirements.

Enhanced Creative Cloud Libraries integration

Work with assets in your Creative Cloud Libraries directly within XD. Now you can access and use assets from your Libraries, or upload assets from XD to your Libraries.

Blend modes

Enhance images and graphics in your designs with blend modes, which blend together a selected layer and a color using preset blending algorithms like Lighten or Multiply. Blend modes are also preserved when importing from other tools.

Nudge and resize keyboard shortcuts

Quickly move and resize objects using keyboard shortcuts. Precisely control the size and position of elements, or snap to a layout grid, using the arrow keys in combination with the Shift and Cmd keys.

Select through overlapping layers on the canvas

Using a simple keyboard modifier, select through all the layers under the cursor so you can access hidden or covered layers on the canvas.

Select covered layers in Design Specs

Easily select specific layers in a design even if they can’t be directly clicked. Now, right-click an artboard in a Design Spec and cycle through the complete list of layers.

Edit in Photoshop

Now you can open and edit images in Photoshop directly from XD. When you’re done editing, simply hit “Save” and images will be automatically updated in XD in real time.

Now you can share a single link with developers that includes both prototype interactions and design specs, saving your developers time as you better communicate your design intent.

Grid view in shared links

Quickly navigate a shared prototype or design spec links using the new grid view. Stakeholders can easily see all artboards in a project, or jump to a specific screen to view linked artboards or actual artboard content.


See when other designers are working on the same document to avoid conflicting edits and duplicative work. When you see your team member’s’s avatar in XD, it means they’ve opened the same doc.

Commenting on mobile

Stakeholders can now easily review and add comments to a shared web prototype, right from their mobile device.

Components with overrides

Now it’s quick and easy to create multiple variations of a design element with components. Change any property while keeping the ability to override any of the common properties across the set.

Responsive resize for components

No more ungrouping components to resize them for multiple artboards. Now responsive resize works on components the same way it does with groups of objects on the design canvas.

Linked Assets

Import components, colors, and character styles into your current document from your or any shared XD cloud document. You’ll be notified of any changes made so you can accept or ignore updates.

Keyboard and gamepad triggers

For the first time ever you can bring your prototypes to life using keyboard and gamepad triggers. Interact with your prototypes using your keyboard as well as Xbox One and DualShock 4 controllers.

Artboard guides

Simply drag guides from the top or left side of your artboard. They’re easy to copy and paste on multiple artboards allowing you to align elements and position them consistently.

Polygon tool

Quickly create a variety of shapes directly within XD — triangles, pentagons, hexagons, and more.

Improved type control

XD now includes support for uppercase, lowercase, title case and strikethrough, in the XD design application and in web and mobile previews.

Voice prototype notifications

When a prototype isn’t responding to a voice command, you can troubleshoot that interaction in the desktop preview app — with a visual preview of what Adobe XD is hearing.

Request access to private prototypes and design specs

Now you can keep work moving by requesting access to a privately shared prototype or design spec and the owner can approve or deny access.

Editable vectors in Illustrator

Now when you copy and paste vector content from XD into Illustrator, it’s fully editable instead of being converted into pixels.

Select objects across groups

It’s easy to select multiple objects in different groups and change the attributes they all share in the Properties Inspector. Just use ⌘+Shift+Click (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+Click (Win).

Drag gesture in web browser

You can now see drag gesture animations when viewing your prototypes and design specs in your browser.

Usability testing control

Disable navigation controls in your web prototypes and create a more controlled environment for user testing.

Mark for export

Objects will automatically be marked for export when you import images from Photoshop and Illustrator. You can also select an object on your artboard and mark it for export in the Properties Inspector or use the right-click menu.

Improved font management

No more missing fonts. Adobe Fonts are now automatically activated when you open your XD document. And other missing fonts are easier to see in your doc so you can batch replace them.

Improved Jira integration

Go from design to development faster. In addition to Jira Software Cloud, teams can now access shared XD designs on Jira Software Server and Jira Software Data Center.

Eyedroppers shortcut

Now it’s even easier to change object colors. Just select the object on the canvas and tap the “i” on your keyboard to pull up the eyedropper in one click.

Record interactions with audio

The desktop preview app now allows you to record your own voice along with any click-through interactions and share it as an MP4 file (Mac only).

Multi-language support

In addition to English, French, German, Japanese, and Korean, Adobe XD now supports Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish.

Auto-animate in the browser

The Auto-animate feature we introduced in October is now supported in the browser, so you can preview animations between artboards in your prototypes.

View all comments across artboards

Turn on “View all comments” in the commenting panel to see stakeholder feedback across multiple artboards. Click on a comment in your prototype or design spec and go right to the affected artboard to reply, resolve, or delete.

Voice language and accent support

Voice now supports all Adobe XD languages for both commands and speech playback. Speech detection has been optimized for accents. And speech playback offers a wider variety of voices with accents based on your region.

Linked symbols

It’s easier to stay on top of changes when symbols that are copied from one document and pasted into prototypes remain linked. Now when changes are made to the source file, you’ll be notified and have the option to accept updates.

Easy integration with Illustrator

Asset extraction from Design Specs

Save time and give developers the ability to extract and download assets from Design Specs. Mark layers as assets for export and send as a Design Specs link. Developers can download all the assets in the file format they need.

Private sharing (beta) from the web

Stroke enhancements

Control the stroke of dotted or dashed lines, and set the look of end caps and corners. For even finer control, you can copy complex strokes from Illustrator and apply them to objects in XD.

Design Specs commenting

Symbol replacement in a snap

It’s now easy to find and replace every occurrence of a symbol all at once. Just drag the new symbol from the Assets panel and drop it onto the symbol you want to replace.

Pasting to multiple artboards

Copy and paste an object onto multiple artboards, and it retains its original position and settings. Along with symbol improvements, this allows you to quickly and consistently manage multiple artboards.

Improved Photoshop integration

Get better fidelity on Photoshop files that you bring into XD. The latest updates also let you transfer stroke and image effects and import PSDs faster.

Sketch file enhancements

Add password protection to your public prototypes when you publish and share with reviewers (coming soon in Design Specs).

Filtered search in Assets panel

Quickly filter assets by color, character styles, or symbols. Use search to find specific font families, hex values, or symbols.

Find and highlight assets

Select “highlight” in the Assets panel to see all the elements on your canvas that use a specific color, character style, or symbol. Right-click an element on your canvas to reveal its colors, character styles, or symbols.

Improved Photoshop integration

Now it’s even easier to bring Photoshop designs into XD by either right-clicking on your Photoshop file and choosing “Open with XD” or dragging and dropping a file over the XD icon (Mac only).

Sketch workflow enhancements

Sketch files opened in XD now have improved fidelity. And you can preserve color adjustments for images, character styles, document swatches, and more. Bring your Photoshop designs and assets into XD by simply opening a PSD file from right inside the app. Your file will automatically convert into a new XD file, making it faster and easier to design and prototype.

Copying symbols between documents

Now you can copy and paste symbols between XD documents in one step. No need to paste first and then manually convert to a symbol. 

Style grouped elements

Speed up your design process by easily changing properties like fill and stroke of grouped elements.

Scrolling artboard enhancement

When clicking on a wired element, you can now control your position to maintain that place on the next screen without having to scroll from the top.

Better zoom performance

Zoom in and out of your canvas and between screens without slowing down, whether you have 10 or 1,000 artboards.

Dropbox preview for XD files

Preview XD files saved to Dropbox without having to download an XD file.

Switching between color models

Quickly switch between HEX, RGB, or HSB color models from the color picker drop-down menu.

Radial gradients

Create and apply radial gradients to simulate a light source, create unique image masks, and more. Gradients are available in the color picker under Solid Fill.

Improvements to Design Specs

Now it’s faster and easier to read measurements, navigate and access UI elements, and work with masked layers.

Artboard display at 100%

View designs in shared prototypes at actual size when you’re in full screen mode. 

Batch export

Export options now include batch export, which you can access through the File menu. Right-click in the Layers panel to mark objects for batch export.

Text underlining

You can now quickly apply an underline to text with a keyboard shortcut or a button in the Property Inspector. Underline maintains fidelity with characters that have descenders such as y and g.

Options for stroke align type

Toggle between stroke align types (inside, outside, or center) on a closed object like a rectangle or circle to modify weight and alignment and control the appearance of your design.

Design Specs

Speed up the development process by sending developers a link to automatically generated design specs from your interactive prototype. Specs include the sequence and flow of your artboards, colors, character styles, and measurements (currently English only).

Layout Grid

Use customizable column grids with margins and gutters to give your designs a consistent, organized look and to manage the proportions between elements. Toggle between Square and Layout grid in the Property Inspector.

JPG export

Easily export assets and artboards from XD in JPG format without the need to convert from another app. You can control the export quality level from 1–100 percent.

Text enhancements

Switch from point text to area text and vice versa with a simple click. Now when you create a new text object, your last used text properties such as font family, size, weight, alignment, and colors are preserved.

Improvements for Windows 10

The latest updates for Windows 10 make designing in Windows even faster. Use two-finger touch to pan and zoom, copy and paste design elements from Adobe InDesign into XD, and import SVG files with externally linked files.

Prototype publishing for feedback

Generate shareable web links to get feedback on your designs, or embed them on Behance or a web page. Reviewers can comment directly on your prototypes and specific parts of your design. You’ll get notified when they make comments, and they can simply refresh their browsers to see your changes.

Whether you’re working with one artboard or a hundred, XD gives you the same fast performance. Design for different screens and devices. Pan and zoom without lag time. Choose from preset sizes or define your own, and copy between artboards without losing the placement of your design elements.

Repeat Grid

Select items in your design, such as a contact list or photo gallery, and replicate them horizontally or vertically as many times as you want — all your styles and spacing stay intact. Update an element once, and your changes will update everywhere.

Cross-platform support

Adobe XD natively supports Windows 10 (Universal Windows Platform) and Mac, with companion mobile apps for Android and iOS.

Assets panel

Make colors and character styles easily available for reuse by adding them to the Assets panel (formerly the Symbols panel), which automatically includes symbols. Edit any color or character style in the panel, and the changes will be reflected throughout your document.

Reimagined symbols

Save time with symbols, reusable design elements that eliminate the need to find and edit each instance of an asset across a document. Update one and they’ll update everywhere, or choose to override specific instances. Symbols can be vector graphics, raster images, or text objects, and they can also be used as objects within Repeat Grids.

Creative Cloud Libraries

With Creative Cloud Libraries integration, you can access and apply raster images, colors, and character styles created in Photoshop, Illustrator, and other Creative Cloud applications from inside XD and reuse them anywhere in your documents.

Contextual Property Inspector

Work in an uncluttered space thanks to the context-aware Property Inspector, which only displays options for the objects you’ve selected. Modify properties like border color and thickness, fill colors, shadows, blurs, opacity, and rotation, and access options for alignment, dimensions, and Repeat Grid.

Smart canvas navigation

Easily zoom in on a specific area of your design, or make a selection on an artboard and use a shortcut to zoom right to it. Pan or zoom with your mouse, touchpad, or keyboard shortcuts. And get great performance even if you have hundreds of artboards.

Contextual layers

Stay organized and focused while managing complex designs thanks to a contextual approach to layers. XD highlights only the layers associated with the artboard you’re working on, so you can quickly and easily find what you need.

Layout guidance tools

Seamlessly draw, reuse, and remix design elements using snap-to grids and other intuitive layout tools that help you create relative measurements between objects, mask with shapes, group, lock, align, and distribute design elements, and more.

Blur effects
